            Primary work of shudani and cudani

            Objectives: At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
            •  practice primary work of cudani
            •  practice primary work of shudani.

               Requirements

               •  Thread                            - as reqd.    •  Thimble                             - as reqd.
                                                                  •  Hoop                                - as reqd.

            PROCEDURE

            TASK 1:  Practice primary work of cudani (4 Berk embroidery) (Fig 1)

            Step-by-step process
            1  Thread preparation
               •  Use fine silk or cotton embroidery thread (often
                  untwisted).
               •  Choose a color matching or contrasting the motif
                  (usually darker than the fill stitch).
            2  Needle choice
               •  A fine, sharp Sozni needle is used, similar to the
                  one for other Sozni stitches.
               •  The needle should allow precise control for
                  outlining.
            3  Starting point

               •  Start at the edge of a motif that has already been
                  filled (e.g. tixxi).
               •  Secure the thread at the back with a small, tight
                  knot or a locking stitch.
